Short Games
(Great practice to improve your game)
The following are some examples of modified games of bowls for both fun and practice.
Pairs
Number of players - 2 or more
This may be played with any number of players, there are no teams. Use two bowls each with all players up one end (helps the socialising) and after everyone completes their deliveries you all walk to the head to view the outcome and score accordingly. Determine your own
time limits and set rules to suit your club and its members. Remember it is modified and it is fun

Sets play
Number of Players - 2 teams
The game is played to the best of three sets, where every set is the first to seven points or nine points or whatever you decide. The higher the number of points the longer the game will be (obviously) but if you set the 'points to win' too high you could be playing a very long time.

Skins
Number of players 2 or more (probably 4 players is the max) - No teams
Bowlers have four bowls each. The Jack is set on the T for the first end, then one from the T next end, then two from the T next end etc. returning to the T after the shortest jack and so on. The bowl furthermost from the jack on each end is no longer playable. Continue with this pattern until only one bowler has any bowls to play and declare that bowler the winner.

Driving
Number of Players 2 or more - no teams
Each player has 3 bowls.
Three jacks are placed 20 centimetres (eight inches) apart with the centre jack on the T (or shorter if desired) and points are awarded as follows:
3 points for hitting the middle jack
2 points for going between the jacks
without hitting a jack
1 points for hitting one of the outside
jacks.
-3 points for a short bowl (yes that's minus 3)
The first player to gain 12 points wins the competition on that rink.
The jacks must be reset each time they are moved. Bowls are cleared away after each has been bowled.
